Horseriding at Chundukwa
Ride with Us!
Chundukwa River Lodge is a horse ranch and our horses are our family. We have a large active stable yard and we enjoy an abundance of space for horse trails, on the river and in the bush in our indigenous wilderness.
Chundukwa Horse Trails is available for in-house guests and those staying elsewhere in Livingstone.
We offer horse riding for all levels of riders, and options for children. Our riding trails range from an hour to half-day trails and we cater for single riders as well as group excursions. Our experienced guides will ensure your comfort and share their vast knowledge of our plant and animal kingdom with you!
“As an experienced horse rider I am always quite nervous of booking horse riding trips on holiday - if the horses are not in good condition it would be so upsetting it would ruin my trip. No such concern at Chundukwa! Beautifully turned out horses and (from my experience) the happiest looking horses in Africa. I was met with fresh coffee and rusks before we set out early to avoid the later midday heat, We rode just myself and 2 guides through the teak forests and local villages, we tracked elephant prints and rode down and through the Zambezi, plenty of trotting and cantering and really interesting information from the guides on the local eco-system and culture. Couldn't have wished for a better experience on a half day ride from Livingstone. If you are a beginner you will be thoroughly looked after by this clearly very experienced team of horseman/women who clearly care very much for their horses. If you are an experienced rider let them know and you'll also have a ride with is great fun!” - Jenny, TripAdvisor

“Doug and Gail are not only outstanding horse people, they are great hosts as well. I stayed here for more than a week of polocrosse training, with friends.
For years I worked on horseback, but between us my friends had very different individual levels of horsemanship. Doug, who is the coach of the Zambian polocrosse team, customized his work with each of us, coaching to our own levels. He chose horses to match us. I was pretty much in love with my horse - a perfect fit! We stayed at the Chundukwa River Lodge, which is a very short walk from the stables and polocrosse field. Chundukwa has as its top priority the health and safety of the horses. All were very well taken care of, full of life and energy. They offer trail rides and all forms of horseback training. I would recommend this for anyone wanting a horseback riding experience in Zambia. Doug and Gail's families have lived in southern Africa for many years. They are immersed in the bush life, and have incredible stories between them.” - Mary, TripAdvisor
